Christmastime at Wren House Care Home in Warminster is always a magical affair. While the historic property captures the festive charm of a certain Dickens novel, the home is filled with Christmas songs, flavours and traditions.
With many traditions scaled back last year, and virtual performances replacing live entertainment, the Wren House family were pleased to see the return of a few seasonal favourites in 2021.
Following changes to government guidance and dynamic risk assessments, some of our residents were able to enjoy a winter stroll and coffee in town to get into the Christmas spirit.
The annual carol performance from the local Minster Church has long been a highlight of Christmas at Wren House. Last year the performance happened via video call to the home’s giant interactive tablet, but this year the choir returned to the Wren House garden. Gathered in front of the home’s patio doors, the choir performed a selection of Christmas classics while our residents joined in from the comfort of the lounge.
After another challenging year for care staff across the sector, the management team at the home were keen to organise a special treat for the team at the home. In the run-up to Christmas, each team member’s name was placed into a draw with a different prize on offer each day. With everything from beauty gifts to chocolate and wine on offer, everyone had the chance to take home a gift. Every morning, the previous day’s winner was asked to draw the next name, providing the perfect opportunity for the team to thank each other their contributions over the year.
Wren House is fortunate to have some bedrooms large enough to accommodate a guest for private dining. Where possible and subject to a negative lateral flow test for the guest, some of our residents were able to enjoy Christmas dinner with a loved one in the comfort of their own room. While in the home’s oak-panelled dining room, staff held a lavish feast for the rest of the Wren House family.
