Deddington Care Home Delivers Cupcake Joy to Key Workers

Deddington-based care home Featherton House has delivered homebaked treats to key workers in the local area.

The team at the home were keen to take part in Alzheimer’s Society’s Cupcake Day initiative in June. The annual celebration aims to bring people together for a catch up over cake while raising vital funds to support those living with dementia.

In the week leading up to the event, the team posted an appeal to local people on their Facebook page. The post encouraged them to nominate key workers in Deddington and the surrounding villages to receive a selection of homemade cakes in return for a donation to Alzheimer’s Society.

After a flurry of nominations, the home’s kitchen, which is famous for its home baking, whipped up a delicious array of cupcakes. When they were ready and beautifully iced, residents and staff at the Deddington-based care home placed the cakes into gift boxes ready for delivery.

On the afternoon of Cupcake Day on 17th June, activities coordinator Gemma Hull set out to deliver the cupcake gift boxes to the nominated key workers.

An Unexpected Treat

The lucky recipients of the delicious cupcakes included Deddington Dental, Deddington Health Centre, the Deddington branch of Hook Norton Vets, and of course, the carers at Featherotn House!

After completing her deliveries, Gemma said: “I was keen to take part in this fundraiser because, since starting a career in care, I have become more aware of the daily struggles that people who live with dementia face. It’s a bit of an eye-opener how young some people who are affected by this terrible illness are, and how quickly the symptoms take over. It is also incredibly sad for the family and friends who support their loved ones through the good days and the bad days.

“It was lovely to see the smiles on the faces of the local key workers when I handed over their unexpected treats. Also, I love to bake so this little fundraiser seemed like the perfect recipe for success!”
