Westerham Keyworkers Receive Heartwarming Gift

Keyworkers at Westerham Place Care Home in Sevenoaks have received a heartwarming gift thanks to the kindness of local people.

In a recent social media competition, Biggin Hill-based baker Bakery By Charlotte asked her followers to nominate a keyworker or business they felt deserved a treat for working through the pandemic.

The team at Westerham Place were delighted to receive several nominations in the competition. A few days later, they were thrilled to be selected as the winners.

Following the announcement, a show-stopping Victoria sponge cake arrived at the home just off Quebec Square in Westerham. Stylishly decorated with green geometric icing, flashes of gold and hand-finished with icing flowers and macarons, the towering sponge was worthy of any Great British Bake Off final!

Humbled by the Continued Kindness of Local People

Claire Davis, home manager at Westerham Place, said: “The team here were over-the-moon to find out that we had won this incredible prize. We continue to be humbled by the kindness of local people during the ongoing pandemic. We’d like to thank everyone who nominated us for this competition alongside other wonderful businesses and individuals.”

“When the cake itself arrived everyone was really impressed! It was delicious and none of us could wait to have another slice. Luckily it was big enough to keep us going for a few days!”

In a post on the Westerham Place Facebook page thanking the baker and the people who nominated the home, Bakery By Charlotte commented “I’m so glad I could treat such a lovely group of deserving key workers – I’m even happier to hear that you all liked it! I hope it brought a little bit of happiness in this difficult time.”
